Fly into Paro either by Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines. After immigration and customs formalities, you will be received by the representative from Trip Tuners, upon arrival at Paro check into your hotel and visit the following places. National Museum of Bhutan, which is housed inside the revamped circular Ta-Dzong, an ancient watchtower above the Paro Dzong. The original building was constructed in 1656, but the building was converted into a museum in 1968. Later, you will visit Paro Dzong, also known as the Rinpung Dzong, which means "fortress on a heap of jewels," and is one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture. After breakfast hike up to Taktsang Monastery, also known as ‘Tiger’s Nest’, the walk up to the viewpoint will take about 2 hrs, and from there you will enjoy a spectacular view of the monastery clinging to the side of the cliff. Stop for refreshment at the View Point Cafeteria. Then walk further up to the monastery which will take about 1 hour. It is said that in the 8th century Guru Rimpochhe flew on the back of a tigress from eastern Bhutan to this place and meditated in a cave here for 3 months. The principal Lhakhang (monastery) of the present monastic complex dates from 1692. Taktsang was damaged severely by fire in 1998 but has now been fully restored to its former glory. While returning, on the way visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. This is an extremely rare member of the goat family. Found in herds in the very high altitudes. They live on a diet of grass and bamboo. It can weigh as much as 550 pounds. Handicrafts Emporium where craftsmen and artisans from across the country display and sell their handicrafts. Here you can buy hand-woven textiles, thangkha paintings, masks, ceramics, slate and wood carvings, jewelry, interesting items made from local materials etc… Centenary Farmers’ Market (open from Fri-Sun only): Most of the Thimphu’s population and many valley dwellers converge on the bustling weekend market, held by the side of Wangchu River. A wide range of foodstuffs and local arts and crafts are sold at the market, which runs from Friday afternoon till Sunday evening. A visit to the market provides great photo opportunities, as well as the chance to mingle with local people and perhaps buy souvenirs. Tashichhoe Dzong, a fortress of the glorious religion. It was built in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel and was reconstructed into present structure by the late King, His majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck in the year 1962-1969. It houses the secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the king, and the central monk body. Kuenselphodrang where the Bhutan’s largest Buddha statue is perched on the hillock overlooking the entire Thimphu valley below and the view from there is magnificent. After breakfast visit Simtokha Dzong, It is one of the oldest Dzong in Bhutan, built in the year of 1629, by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. The Dzong houses countless statues and paintings of various Buddha’s, deities and religious figures including the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rimpochhe, Jampelyang the Bodhisattava of Wisdom, Shakya Gyalpo the Buddha of Compassion and many more, all carved and painted in exquisite detail. And then continue towards Punakha, drive up to Dochula Pass (3,088m/ 10,130 ft) stopping briefly here to take in the view and admire the Chorten, Mani wall, and prayer flags which decorate the highest point on the road. If skies are clear, the following peaks can be seen from this pass (left to right): Masagang (7,158m), Tsendagang (6,960m), Terigang (7,060m ), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m ), Kangphugang (7,170 m ), Zongphugang (7, 060 m ), a table mountain that dominates the isolated region of Lunana - finally Gangkar puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497m. The road then drops down through varied forest finally emerging into the highly cultivated, sub-tropical Punakha valley. On the way, stop at Metshina Village and take a 20-minute walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, which is a fertility temple dedicated to the Divine Madman or Lama Drukpa Kuenley. Morning drive to north of Punakha for about 12 km, from the road point you will hike up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten or River rafting, which is located on a beautiful hillock called Ngezergang. Hike back to Punakha. On the way back, visit the Punakha Dzong, built strategically at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to serve as the religious and administrative centre of the region. In the afternoon, drive back to Paro and in the evening, stroll through Paro town. Overnight at the hotel in Paro
